A hockey scoresheet is an official game record, so start with your league or tournament’s instructions. Formats and responsibilities vary. This guide focuses on preparation and checking information rather than prescribing one universal set of scoring rules.
Gather the information the organizer requires
- The correct teams, game date, location, and event details.
- Player names and current jersey numbers for the game.
- Coaching staff information and any required approvals or signatures.
- The organizer’s process for changes, call-ups, and final reporting.
Prepare your roster before game day

Keep game recording separate
Goals, assists, penalties, time entries, and other required statistics should be recorded by the responsible officials or scorekeeping volunteers according to the game’s process. Do not fill in assumptions or use an app to override an official decision.

Review before and after the game
Before puck drop, confirm numbers and spelling and identify the correct way to report a late change. After the game, follow the organizer’s procedure for checking totals, obtaining required sign-off, and submitting the record.
Only distribute the information appropriate for the scoresheet. Keep unrelated private player and family information out of publicly shared documents.
