A useful coaching kit combines simple physical equipment with digital tools that solve specific jobs. The aim is a clear plan and fewer missing details, not an app for every decision.
1. A readable lineup
Prepare positions and goalie assignments before arriving. Hockey Lineup Manager for iPhone and iPad can save game plans and export a lineup PDF for assistants.
2. Scoresheet roster labels
Use HLM’s free Scoresheet Stickers tool when your organizer accepts labels. Review the roster and print an Avery 8163-compatible PDF before game day.
3. A timed practice plan

4. Reusable drill references

7. Visible timing
Assign someone to watch the session clock. Choose timing appropriate to the format and teaching goal rather than treating one shift length as universal.
8. Group identifiers
Use suitable practice jerseys or other program-approved grouping methods so players can recognize the next station or game group.
9. The program’s safety arrangements
Know the rink’s emergency process and your program’s safety responsibilities. A phone, checklist, or general-purpose app does not replace required training and procedures.
10. A team communication system
Use the program’s chosen system for schedules, availability, and family messages. A locally stored lineup or practice plan is not a live team-messaging service.
Prepare one actual game and practice with your tools, then remove steps that do not help your staff or players. Review Pro access before depending on advanced app functions.
